Ethel Swinburne Society Scholarship in Nursing 2027

The Ethel Swinburne Society Scholarship in Nursing supports commencing Bachelor of Nursing students at Swinburne who face educational disadvantage, with preference for Indigenous students.

Funded by members of the Ethel Swinburne Society, it honours Ethel Swinburne, a philanthropist and advocate for women’s education, whose legacy includes co-founding, along with her husband George, the institution that became Swinburne University.

Applicants must be an:

• Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident or Australian permanent resident with humanitarian visa.

Applicants must be: 

• a commencing first year student at Swinburne in Semester 1, 2027
• enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Nursing at Swinburne
• studying on-campus.

Applications will be assessed based on educational disadvantage and community involvement.

Personal statement or video

Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words or 2 minute video addressing:

• your interest and commitment to study
• how this scholarship will help you achieve your educational goals.

Educational disadvantage

Provide evidence of educational disadvantage, which may fall under the categories listed below. To assist you, we’ve included a link to the VTAC website for further guidance on preparing your evidence:

• difficult family and life circumstances.

Curriculum vitae (CV)

Provide a copy of your curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages) outlining:

• any community participation, extra-curricular activities, sporting participation and/or leadership experience.

Written reference

Provide a written reference from a teacher, community leader, or employer. Note: referees cannot be a family member or friend.
