About the scholarship
To provide a once off payment for VET students who are experiencing financial hardship preventing them from having access to sufficient equipment (e.g. IT hardware, media equipment) and/or contribute to connectivity costs in order to undertake the online requirements of course delivery.
Value details
It is recommended that students can access Australian Computer Traders for a re-furbished laptop with high specs, suitable for a VET course.
Successful applicants will be contacted to provide a receipt for their hardware or equipment purchases and a testimonial on how the scholarship has benefited them.
Eligibility and selection criteria
Applicants must:
- be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or Australian permanent resident with humanitarian visa
- not have a fee debt.
Applicants must:
- be a commencing first year or continuing second year and above Swinburne student in Semester 2, 2026
- be enrolled in any Swinburne vocational education courses (Certificate IV and below, Diploma and Advanced Diploma).
Applicants will be assessed based on:
- experience of financial hardship.

Personal statement
Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words addressing:
- impact of financial hardship, which may have hindered access to education
- how receiving the scholarship funds will support studies with Swinburne.
Financial hardship
Submit evidence of financial hardship. Examples include (but not limited to):
- Health Care Card or Pension Concession Card
- Youth Start Allowance
- Newstart Allowance
- Austudy
- Abstudy
- Disability Support Pension; and/or
- Carer's Payment.
Letter of recommendation
A letter of recommendation from your teacher or a support service team you are engaging with will strengthen your application.
