About the scholarship

Summary

The Andrew Patterson Mathematics Scholarship will provide financial support to a first-year, full time, undergraduate student with an interest in mathematics who has experienced educational disadvantage, helping to open pathways to opportunity and achievement.

More benefits

Should the recipient go on to pursue postgraduate study, the scholarship may be extended to support honours or master’s-level coursework, within a maximum five-year period.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

Applicants must: 

  • be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident
  • have attended a government secondary school prior to commencing at Swinburne.
Enrolment criteria

Applicants must be: 

  • a commencing first year Swinburne student and undertaking a mathematics unit in Semester 2, 2026
  • enrolled full-time in a Swinburne undergraduate course
  • approved for a major or minor in mathematics
  • studying on-campus.
Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed based on:

  • educational disadvantage
  • previous study undertaken.

Preference will be given to students who have relocated from rural/regional areas of Victoria.
