InfraBuild Steel Scholarship 2026

lnfraBuild Steel is Australia's only fully vertically integrated steel manufacturer, spanning scrap metal recycling, steel production, and downstream distribution with major operations across Australia and internationally.

The InfraBuild Steel Scholarship Program was established in 2016 to support engineering students at Swinburne with an interest in electrical, mechanical, or robotics engineering.

Three scholarships are available and include the opportunity for paid vacation work at InfraBuild Steel's Laverton Mill, giving students practical industry experience, mentorship and exposure to a leading global organisation. 

Applicants must: 

• be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or New Zealand citizen
• have obtained 100 credit points at Swinburne
• have achieved a credit average in their first year of study.

Please note that exemptions are not included and recipients need to achieve a credit average in each year of study to remain eligible.

Applicants must be: 

• a continuing second year Swinburne student in Semester 2, 2026
• enrolled full-time in a Swinburne undergraduate course (single or double degree) in one of the following areas:
  
  Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
  Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Professional) 
  
  
• studying one of the following majors:
  
  Electrical and Electronic
  Robotics and Mechatronics
  Mechanical.
  

Applications will be assessed based on:

• academic results from their first year of study at Swinburne.

Please note:

The recipient is highly encouraged to collaborate with InfraBuild Steel in regard to their final year research project (FYRP). The topic of the FYRP should be relevant to Steel manufacturing and agreed by the scholarship recipient, the School and InfraBuild Steel. A final report of the project should be submitted to InfraBuild Steel.

Personal statement

Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words or a short 2 minute video addressing:

• a passion for a career in your chosen field of study
• interest in pursuing a career in materials production and manufacturing.

Community and leadership abilities

Provide evidence of at least one of the following attributes:

• leadership qualities
• active involvement in the local community
• excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

Written reference

Provide a written reference from a teacher, community leader, or employer. Note: referees cannot be a family member or friend.
