About the scholarship
The Peter and Vaclav Havlicek Chemistry Scholarship honours the legacy of the late Peter Havlicek, who was a distinguished and much-respected member of Swinburne's Department of Chemistry and a pioneer in the use of microcomputers.
The generous scholarship provides financial assistance of $10,000 annually for up to three years to successful applicants with educational disadvantage who are pursuing an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in science (majoring in chemistry or biochemistry) at Swinburne.
Value details
The scholarship value will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time applicants.
Eligibility and selection criteria
Applicants must be:
- an Australian citizen, New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.
Applicants must be:
- a commencing first year or continuing second year and above Swinburne student in 2026
- enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate of Science degree (including double degrees) at Swinburne University with the following majors:
Chemistry
Biochemistry
- enrolled full time (part time will be considered).
Applicants will be assessed based on their:
- educational disadvantage
- enrolled major.
This scholarship is related to the following study areas:
- Science
Personal statement
Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words addressing:
- your passion for, and long-term plans in, the chosen field of study
- how you will benefit from the scholarship.
Educational disadvantage
Provide evidence of educational disadvantage which may include:
- personal information and location
- financial hardship
- living with a disability or medical condition
- difficult family and life circumstances.
