Kath Watson Scholarship for Women 2027

The Kath Watson Foundation, established in 2010, supports female students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue and succeed in tertiary education at Swinburne.

It honours Dr Kathleen Watson AM, a pioneering educator and advocate for women’s education, who served as one of Victoria’s first female high school principals and later on Swinburne’s Council for 12 years. In recognition of her contributions, Kath received an Honourary Doctorate in 2011.

Applicants must:

• identify as female
• be 25 years of age or older
• be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, Australian permanent resident, or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.

Applicants must be:

• a commencing first year or continuing second year and above Swinburne student in Semester 1, 2027
• enrolled full-time in any Swinburne vocational education (Certificate IV and above) or equivalent, undergraduate or postgraduate course
• studying on-campus or online. 

Applicants will be assessed based on:

• educational disadvantage
• supporting documentation

Personal statement

Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words addressing: 

• your commitment to study and career aspirations.

Educational disadvantage

Provide evidence of educational disadvantage due to:

• personal information and location
• financial hardship
• living with a disability or medical condition
• difficult family or life circumstances.

Written reference

Provide a written reference from a teacher, community leader or employer (not a family member or friend).
