Study and Living Support Grants

The Study and Living Support grant aids students experiencing financial difficulties and struggling to meet basic living costs.

Value:  $1,000 (paid by 2nd October post census date). 

Available to students studying any course at an undergraduate, associate degree or UniLink level (not including undergraduate certificate)

To be eligible, you must meet all of the following criteria:

• You are a local student (Australian citizen/permanent resident/permanent humanitarian visa holder/New Zealand citizen).
• You are enrolled at Swinburne  in an undergraduate degree, associate degree or UniLink course (not including undergraduate certificate).
• You are enrolled full time or part time and are actively studying in 2026.
• If you are studying on campus, you are eligible to apply.
• If you are a Swinburne Online or Open Universities student, you must be on a Commonwealth Supported Place, 
• You can demonstrate that you are from a low socio-economic background (for example,  you or your parents receive Centrelink payments), or from a regional or remote background, or are an Indigenous Australian.

You are not eligible to apply if you are currently receiving a Swinburne scholarship or a Study and Living Support grant in Semester 1.

Multiple grants are available.

We will receive more applications than grants available so there is no guarantee that you will be successful.

To apply, complete and submit the online application form and upload all supporting documentation by 11.59 pm Friday 28 August 2026. 

Please have all supporting documents ready before you start  completing your application. If a file is too large to upload, you will see a message in the form and you will not be able to submit it. If this happens, attach a Word document listing the document or documents you were unable to upload. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 18 September 2026 via their student email account. 

You must provide supporting documentation relevant to your circumstances, including:

• A copy of your most recent Centrelink Statement (usually 2 to 3 pages) showing your Centrelink payment or payments. Screenshots and Services Australia summary statements will not be accepted. This statement must show all fortnightly payment amounts. For instructions on how to download your statement, see  https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/individuals/online-help/centrelink/request-document-using-your-centrelink-online-account). 
• If you are working, a copy of your three most recent payslips to verify your income.
• If you have a disability, medical condition or mental illness, and you are not registered with Accessibility Services, a letter from a relevant health professional outlining your condition. 
• If you live with a partner, parent or guardian, provide their most recent Centrelink Statement if  they receive Centrelink benefits. Screenshots and Services Australia summary statements will not be accepted, and the statement must show all fortnightly payment amounts.  If they do not receive Centrelink benefits, provide their three most recent payslips.

Please note: If you do not provide the correct supporting documentation in the format outlined above, your application will not be considered. We will not follow up about missing or incorrect documents.
