What is a Unique Student Identifier (USI)?

A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is a reference number made up of numbers and letters and it's yours for life.

Vocational Education

It is Commonwealth legislation that from 1 January 2015 all students undertaking nationally recognised course will need to have a USI and provide this when enrolling into a course.

We will not issue students with a Statements of Attainment or a Qualification if they do not provide their USI.

Higher Education

From 1 January 2021, new higher education students will need a USI to be eligible for Commonwealth assistance (Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) and/or HELP loan).

If you do not have a USI, please visit to create one and submit your Unique Student Identifier here.
