Overview

The Graduate Diploma of Aviation provides students with the advanced knowledge and practice that are critical in undertaking management roles in the aviation industry. The course, primarily, will meet the needs of personnel currently involved in the aviation industry who wish to upgrade their skills at tertiary level in the area of aviation management and human factors. In addition, the course has applications for personnel in other resilient organisations and industries including transport, supply chains and health.

Study structure

Successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Aviation requires students to complete units of study to the value of 100 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

  • Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year
  • Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year

  • One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Aims and objectives

On completion of the Graduate Diploma of Aviation, graduates will be able to:

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge in professional aviation practice
  • Identify and describe the complexity of issues and relationships in the aviation industry and provide and evaluate innovative solutions to a variety of industry scenarios
  • Describe contemporary and emerging aviation industry issues and challenges
  • Apply clear and coherent communication skills to articulate complex knowledge
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for all personal work outputs and ideas

Career opportunities

Completion of this postgraduate course could lay foundations for further study or lead to roles in aviation management, such as airline or airport manager, flight or ground operator, and aviation safety authority. In addition, you will have skills that can be applied across a range of other resilient organisations and industries, including transport, supply chain and health.

Volume of learning

The Graduate Diploma of Aviation consists of 100 credit points. Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. A standard annual full-time load comprises 100 credit points and a part-time load comprises 50 credit points. The volume of learning of the Graduate Diploma of Aviation is typically 1 year.

Maximum Academic Credit

The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Graduate Diploma of Aviation award is 50 credit points (normally 4 units), this is based on exit award requirements of 100 credit points.
