About the scholarship

Summary

The Bruce McDonald Accountancy Alumni Scholarship, established by Swinburne Accounting Alumni, supports a second year undergraduate student passionate about accounting or related business fields and has experienced educational disadvantage.

An integral component of the Accounting Futures Fund, this scholarship aims to develop career-ready, innovative and entrepreneurial graduates.

Named in honour of Bruce McDonald, it celebrates his 50+ year career at Swinburne, including leadership in accounting and philanthropy.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Eligibility

Applicants must be:

  • an Australian citizen,  Australian permanent resident or holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.
Enrolment criteria

Applicants must be: 

  • a continuing second year student in Semester 1, 2027
  • enrolled full-time in one of the following courses:

    Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Business (Professional) -  majoring in: Accounting, Accounting and Finance, Accounting and Financial Planning, Finance, Financial Planning, or Information Systems
    Bachelor of Accounting
    Bachelor of Business Information Systems
    Bachelor of Accounting and Business Information Technology (Professional)
    Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology.
Selection criteria

Applications will be assessed based on educational disadvantage and community involvement.

Supporting documentation

Personal statement

Submit a personal statement of up to 500 words addressing:

  • why you should be awarded the scholarship
  • outlining your interest for a career in Accounting and/or Business
  • your future aspirations.

Provide evidence of educational disadvantage, which may fall under the categories listed below. To assist you, we’ve included a link to the VTAC website for further guidance on preparing your evidence:

Community involvement

Provide evidence of any community involvement using reference letters, certificate of participation, etc. Examples include:

  • extra-curriculur service to the community
  • sporting participation
  • leadership qualities.

Written references

Provide a written reference from a teacher, community leader, or employer. Note: referees cannot be a family member or friend.
