New study opportunities for 2027

Swinburne regularly reviews the courses and units we offer to take into consideration academic, industry and student demands. From 2027, we are introducing new ways to shape your degree, including two new minors and an overseas study opportunity.

Depending on your course and study plan, you may wish to consider these options now as you plan your Semester 2, 2026 enrolment.

New minors

From Semester 1, 2027, students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Accounting will have access to two new 50-credit-point minors:

  • Marketing Toolkit

  • Workforce Playbook

These minors have been designed in response to employer-identified skill shortages and future workforce needs. They can help you build practical, industry-relevant capabilities that complement the knowledge you are developing through your degree.

You can complete all four units in a minor to receive the minor, or select individual units as electives, subject to prerequisites and space in your study plan.

The Marketing Toolkit is a 50-credit-point minor made up of four purpose-built units. You can complete all four units to receive the minor, or select individual units as electives, subject to prerequisites and space in your study plan.

This minor develops applied digital marketing skills across the marketing lifecycle, including customer experience, online discoverability, engagement, analytics and ethical data-enabled marketing.

The four units are:

The full minor is available to students studying, or who have completed, the Marketing major.

To take Marketing Toolkit units from 2027, you must have:

What you will build

Through the Marketing Toolkit, you will develop technical marketing capabilities across areas such as:

  • customer experience
  • marketing automation
  • social media marketing
  • search marketing
  • web design and analytics
  • data-enabled marketing practice.

The Workforce Playbook is a 50-credit-point minor made up of four purpose-built units. You can complete all four units to receive the minor, or select individual units as electives, subject to space in your study plan.

This minor develops practical skills for working effectively in organisations, including collaboration, stakeholder engagement, project delivery, communication and professional practice.

To take any of the Workforce Playbook units from 2027, you must have completed at least 100 credit points of your degree.

What you will build

  • communication

  • professional practice
  • strategic communication and storytelling.

These are new study options, not changes to your existing course structure.

If you are interested in adding a minor or taking individual Marketing Toolkit units as electives in 2027, you should plan your Semester 2 2026 enrolment now. Make sure you've completed MKT20032 Frontiers in Digital Marketing, as it is a prerequisite for all Marketing Toolkit units. You can complete this unit in Semester 2 2026.

What do I need to do now?

If you're interested in one of the new minors, you should:

  1. Review your current study plan and check whether you have space for a 50-credit-point minor (or individual units as electives).
  2. Plan your Semester 2 2026 enrolment with the minor in mind.
  3. Select the minor when re-enrolment for 2027 opens in October 2026.

If you don't have room to complete the full minor, you may still be able to select one or more individual units as electives, subject to prerequisites.

If you need help adding individual units or understanding the Marketing Toolkit or Workforce Playbook, contact our Enrolment Specialist team.

Before making changes to your enrolment, we recommend reviewing your study plan and seeking course advice to make sure your selections fit within your degree.
