Current students can get ahead with your studies by using the break to keep accruing credit points towards your degree.
You can select up to two Summer Term and two Winter Term units. Options include internships, electives and core units. Don't forget to check your course planner.
If you’re an international student – either currently in Australia or arriving in Australia before the start of Summer or Winter Term – check your course planner to see which units can be undertaken as part of your course.

Professional internships
A Summer Term internship is an immersive way to gain real industry experience. The shorter delivery period during these terms allows for an intensive internship, rather than spreading out across an entire semester.
Internships for Summer Term 2025 must be confirmed by Monday 16 December 2024.

What does online study look like?
You’ll access all your recordings, live sessions, readings, activities and course assignments via Canvas – your online classroom. This platform is also your portal to peer-driven discussions and a range of our support services available throughout your study.
NOTE: Units studied via Swinburne Online will be housed in a different Canvas site to our on-campus Canvas. You can access these units using your Swinburne username and password at https://swinburneonline.instructure.com/.

How to enrol as a local student
To enrol in units available via Swinburne online in Teaching Period 3, follow these steps before Friday 1 November:
- Head to our course list and browse units categorised under Teaching Period 3 and Location: Online.
- Check your course planner to ensure your unit choices are suitable for your studies.
- Log in to My Swinburne, navigate to ‘My Study’ and then ‘Plan and enrol’.
- Select the unit you want, click ‘Schedule’, select ‘2024’ and ‘Teaching Period 3’, click ‘OK’ and then ‘Enrol’.
- Look out for more information about getting started with Swinburne Online after you’ve completed your enrolment.
Enrolling as an international student
If you would like to enrol in a unit taught in Teaching Period 3 via Swinburne Online, you will need to submit an enrolment amendment form. You can book an appointment with an Enrolment Support @ HQ specialist if you would like help with this.

Summer and Winter Terms are available to any student enrolled in a bachelor degree.
Do I need to have met any prerequisites?
Many of the Summer and Winter Term units do not have prerequisites, which means you can enrol in these if you meet the eligibility criteria. To check prerequisites, click on the individual unit to read the unit information in detail.
How to enrol
To enrol in Summer or Winter Term units, select the Summer or Winter teaching period when you are choosing units.
