Swinburne’s research quality rises in global rankings

Swinburne University of Technology has held its spot in the top 300 universities worldwide, placing 294th globally in the 2027 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Swinburne rose in the rankings to place 63rd in the world for research quality, up from 92nd place in 2026.

This outcome is testament to Swinburne’s high-quality research and continued strong performance across key measures of research quality and industry.

Swinburne’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Professor Karen Hapgood says that this result highlights Swinburne’s commitment to high-quality, impactful research that produces innovative solutions to real-world problems. 

“Our jump in the research quality rank reflects the hard work and commitment of our researchers, who are delivering meaningful research contributions that are at the absolute top of their field.

“It shows that we are producing high-quality research that is extraordinarily widely-read and among the most well-cited research in the field worldwide,” Professor Hapgood says. 

“While we are more than our rank at Swinburne, I’m proud to see the outstanding excellence of our researchers recognised on the global stage,” she says.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings assess research-focused universities based on all key areas of performance including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
