Eight Swinburne researchers have been announced in the top 200 scholars in Australia in computer science and electronics in the 2020 ranking of the Top 1000 Scientists in Computer Science, released by Guide2Research.
Guide2Research is an academic platform for computer science research and acts as a portal to streamline progress for professors, research fellows and those studying for a PhD or a master’s degree.
Scholars earn their ranking by demonstrating leadership and excellence in the area of computer science and electronics. Their position is based on their h-index value from Google Scholar, a metric that attempts to measure both the productivity and citation impact of the publications of a scientist or scholar.
In 2020, Swinburne ranked seventh in Australia and third in Victoria, with a total h-index of 443.

Distinguished Professor Qing-Long Han is Swinburne’s Pro Vice-Chancellor in Research Quality. Professor Han has been recognised in the 2020 Ranking for Computer Science and Electronics as number 320 in the world and number five in Australia.
He is internationally established as a leader in Control Theory and Engineering, and guides future development in Quality Strategy at Swinburne’s School of Software and Electrical Engineering.
“I am very proud to have received this recognition as one of the Top 1000 Scientists in computer science in the world for three consecutive years. My world ranking has improved significantly from number 656 in 2018, to number 456 in 2019, and now to number 320 in 2020. My Australian ranking has also improved from number nine in 2018, to number six in 2019, to number five in 2020,” Professor Han says.
Of those noted as top researchers in the computer science and electronics field, five of the influential scholars work in Swinburne’s Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering. Dean of Digital Research and Innovation Capability, Professor Yang Xiang, and Distinguished Professor in Applied Mathematics, Professor Vo V Anh, demonstrate the range of knowledge and proficiency across Swinburne’s faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.
