Overview

The Master of Aviation is part of a nested suite of programs which includes the Graduate Certificate of Aviation and the Graduate Diploma of Aviation with different entry and exit points.

 This course provides students with the advanced knowledge and practice that are critical in undertaking leadership roles in the aviation industry.

The course, primarily, will meet the needs of personnel currently involved in the aviation industry who wish to upgrade their skills at tertiary level in the area of aviation management and human factors. In addition, the course has applications for personnel in other resilient organisations and industries including transport, supply chains and health.

Study structure

Successful completion of the Master of Aviation requires students to complete units of study to the value of 150 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

  • Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year
  • Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year

  • One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Aims and objectives

On completion of the Master of Aviation (Human Factors) graduates will be able to:

  •  Demonstrate high-level advanced knowledge in professional aviation industry practice
  • Identify and describe the complexity of issues and relationships in the aviation industry
  • Apply established models to implement innovative solutions to a variety of industry scenarios, and take leadership and mentoring roles within operational teams
  • Investigate contemporary and emerging aviation industry issues and challenges and to develop innovative strategies for implementation of effective management
  • Apply theoretical knowledge and reflect critically on professional aviation industry practice
  • Discuss and document research outcomes by applying appropriate research principles, sound methods and technical research skills
  • Apply clear and coherent communication skills to justify propositions and professional decisions
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for all personal work outputs

Volume of learning

The Master of Aviation consists of 150 credit points. Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. A standard annual full-time load comprises 100 credit points and a part-time load comprises 50 credit points. The volume of learning of the Master of Aviation is typically 1.5 years.

Maximum Academic Credit

The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Master of Aviation award is 75 credit points (normally 6 units), this is based on exit award requirements of 150 credit points.
