Overview

This unit allows students to immerse themselves in an industry news environment. Students will use advanced practitioner skills to produce short and long form news reporting through various news formats. Students will be involved in a breaking news day where they will be required to complete a series of tasks to deadline, producing a portfolio of innovative reportage for an industry partner.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of editorial relationships and professional requirements of newsrooms.
  • Integrate live, mobile and interactive journalism practices into story production and publishing
  • Develop advanced practitioner story-telling techniques to research, edit and present to deadline in a live environment
  • Exemplify the ethical and legal elements of reporting across media forms
  • Plan, research produce a journalism portfolio for an industry partner
