Overview

To facilitate further training to transition the student from single pilot operations, and develop the skills required for safe and efficient multi crew flight deck operation while consolidating existing instrument flying and technical competence.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to airline Standard Operating Procedures
  • Deliver clear precise briefings that are appropriate to the activities to be conducted, including cabin crew briefings
  • Apply Normal and Non Normal checklists correctly and at appropriate times
  • Consolidate and develop existing Instrument flying skills, with emphasis on Automation Management
  • Consolidate and develop correct flight conduct habits, involving appropriate preparation, route knowledge and ATC compliance
  • Demonstrate correct crew coordination, including cabin crew and passenger liaison activities
  • Demonstrate the skills that are necessary to be effective team leaders and crew members, as PF and PNF
  • Apply strategies to manage workload, errors and distractions, particularly in high workload, time compressed situations
  • Demonstrate the ability to support the flying pilot, with emphasis on situational awareness, crew roles and CRM support models such as, for example, “RAISE” (Qantas support language process)
  • Apply decision making tools such as, for example, “GRADE” (Qantas Decision Making Process)
  • Communicate intentions and requirements in a clear and unambiguous manner
  • Identification of Threats and Errors across all phases of operations, and the adoption of appropriate TEM Management practises

Content

Minimum of 3 hours Simulator. During this phase, an additional pre-flight and post flight briefing is delivered, plus at least 2 hours of Crew Resource Management training. Additionally, the student will require at least 2 hours for flight planning for Line Orientated Flight Training (LOFT) sequences.
