Overview

This unit has three themes. Firstly, roles and approaches to assessment to ensure constructively aligned curricula. This includes designing and applying authentic summative and formative assessment; technology-based assessment; academic integrity; and emerging trends. Secondly, the role of teachers and students in providing and using feedback. Thirdly, evaluating teaching practice to advance student learning and professional advancement.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Characterise contemporary assessment practices from design to application.
  • Design and develop appropriate formative and summative assessments in the context of the relevant unit, course and discipline.
  • Apply a diversity of methods and modes to provide and encourage multi-directional feedback.
  • Enact, reflect on, and evaluate evidence-based change improvements of their teaching practice.
  • Contribute to sustaining a peer network and add to their professional portfolio evidence of an ability to evaluate student and self-learning.
