Swinburne University of Technology’s Aerostructures Innovation Research Hub (AIR Hub) is thrilled to announce the opening of its final round of the AIR Pass program.

Designed to fuel the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups in the Australian aerospace ecosystem, this initiative will provide eligible projects with up to $50,000 in funding to support their development.

AIR Hub director Dr Adriano Di Pietro said AIR Pass, backed by the research expertise of the AIR Hub network of research and industry partners, will foster the development of Australia's aviation and aerospace entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“The AIR Hub is excited to empower innovative SMEs and start-ups by providing them with the tools and expertise needed to thrive in the aerospace industry,” Dr Di Pietro said.

“It is comprised of expert engineers ready to work on start-up tech challenges.”

Supporting the next generation of aerospace deep tech ventures

Beyond financial support, projects will also receive expert prototyping and technical guidance, and will have access to industry-leading mentors and collaboration within the AIR Hub network.

Interested ventures can submit their project proposals for consideration throughout the remainder of 2023 or until program funds are exhausted.

Dr Di Pietro said one of the key strengths of AIR Pass lies in its provision of technical guidance and support.

For up to six months, selected SMEs and start-ups will be assigned a dedicated team of experts in design and engineering, who will assist in rapidly analysing and refining their technology and product offerings.

“Through close collaboration and access to Swinburne's extensive research resources, participants will overcome technical challenges and achieve critical milestones on their path to success,” he said.

“With a strong emphasis on tangible results and market validation, the AIR Pass program enables participants to accelerate their technology development journey, thereby bolstering Australia's position as a global leader in aviation.”

A comprehensive support system

AIR Pass participants will be assigned a dedicated team of design and engineering experts for up to six months, providing a comprehensive support system.

This elite team will guide and support participants in rapidly analysing and refining technology and product offerings, ensuring critical milestones are achieved.

The benefits of the AIR Pass program extend beyond the initial engagement, too.

Successful participation in the program can unlock further funding opportunities, including grants and capital raising prospects.

“This amplifies the program's potential to propel SMEs and start-ups towards long-term growth and viability, securing their position within the competitive aerospace landscape,” Dr Di Pietro said.
