What is a Student Success Adviser?

Student Success Advisers (previously known as Academic Development Advisers) work collaboratively with students to help them adapt and succeed in their studies and overcome any academic or personal challenges that are impacting their studies.

We advise, encourage, inform, mentor and teach students throughout their entire university career.

How we can assist you

Student Success Advisers can help you to:

  • recover academically and get your studies back on track
  • identify and achieve your educational and personal goals
  • acquire new skills and attitudes that promote academic success
  • perform at your best at university.

We can assist you with building motivation, goal-setting techniques, decision-making and problem-solving skills, time management skills, tackling procrastination, and learning and academic skills development.

What we offer

Student Success Advisers provide a number of services to students.

We offer face-to-face, video and telephone appointments to work collaboratively with students and explore their choices, overcome challenges, problem solve and assist them in creating a plan to move forward.

We work with students who are are newly enrolled, require some early intervention or who have been designated as being at risk, on conditions or asked to show cause.

The Back on Track program is designed to enable students who have experienced difficulties in their studies to reconnect with their education and training, become focused about finishing their course, and progress into ‘good standing’ in terms of their academic status.

The aim is to get you ‘back on track’ by helping you to develop strong and sustainable academic foundations that will help with positive study pathways and full participation in your course.

These programs offer online modules that take a deep dive into modern ideas and theories about:

  • maintaining motivation
  • improving time management
  • reducing procrastination
  • enhancing study techniques
  • building strategies to help improve academic progress.

Back on Track sessions are held on campus every week of semester from Monday to Thursday. These sessions are designed for discussion, connection with peers, and support from Academic Development Advisers.

Information about session times may be found on the Back on Track canvas site:
