Overview

The aim of this unit is for students to develop advanced competencies in working with clients in a human services counselling or couple counselling context. A further aim is for students to be able to use supervision effectively and to apply evidence-based strategies in their work with clients.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Implement and evaluate evidence-based therapies with individuals, couples and/or families
  • Apply and evaluate high-level counselling, assessment and clinical formulation skills to a range of client presentations in human service and couple counselling settings
  • Identify and evaluate the importance of the supervisory relationship when working with a range of clients in an applied setting
  • Establish and execute a supervision contract that adheres to agency policy and procedures, and the ethical principles and guidelines relevant to counselling in an applied setting

Content

Placement activities including client contact in relevant placement agency (human services counselling stream) or Relationships Australia Victoria (couple counselling stream) as well as supervision and other related placement activities (case notes, meetings, report writing).
