Overview

This unit enables students to select and apply occupationally focused assessments and interventions for individuals or communities who are experiencing complex mental health conditions. Students learn to apply key components of evidence-based interventions including vocational, cognitive-behavioural, sensory, and case management to specialist practice areas.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Select and apply an occupational therapy conceptual practice model to complex mental health scenarios
  • Select and evaluate professional practice models including recovery and strengths models which will guide assessment and service provision
  • Investigate and synthesise person or community, environment and occupation factors to design service provision plans
  • Articulate professional reasoning and critique of evidence to justify and evaluate service provision with individuals and communities
  • Appraise research studies on assessment measures and apply to clinical practice
  • Synthesise and apply research relevant to clinical practice; articulate and communicate this clearly in Problem Based Learning group environment
