Honours Project B
Overview
This unit aims to develop the ability to undertake original scientific research as part of a research group. The student will identify all important steps that must be completed to reach their overall research goal, undertake background reading and a literature review. At the completion of the unit the student will have demonstrated the ability to define a scientific question, and have made progress towards the investigation of that question.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Critically analyse a challenging, complex or multi-faceted problems, identify research questions, design and plan a research project
- Demonstrate initiative, critical thinking and judgement in developing new understanding
- Display communication skills to present a clear and coherent exposition of advanced knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiences
- Apply knowledge of research principles and methods to plan a piece of research with some independence as preparation for research higher degrees

Hurdle
As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:
(i) an aggregate mark for the unit of 50% or more, and(ii) at least 40% of the possible final marks for each of the assessments.Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirement(s) (ii) will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.
