Overview

This unit of study is a project-based unit. It aims to provide students with the opportunity to apply a design thinking approach to an industry-relevant challenge while working in a small team. Students will develop skills in their major discipline while considering the ethical, human and application context of their work.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Apply a design thinking approach to understand and solve a stakeholder problem
  • Design and implement a project plan using industry standard project management and collaboration tools
  • Apply an analysis of ethical, human and software application context to inform prototype design solutions
  • Effectively communicate project deliverables and artefacts to stakeholders using a variety of communication types and tools
  • Identify and actively work towards closing project-related knowledge gaps by undertaking independent research and upskilling activities in major discipline
  • Describe and implement strategies for developing an inclusive and safe team culture and provide respectful and constructive feedback to team members

Hurdle

As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all ULOs to a minimum standard, an undergraduate student must have achieved:

(i) achieve an overall mark for the unit of 50% or more, and(ii) work in a team to complete the project to an acceptable standard. Rubrics will be used to determine if students have met the acceptable standard. The rubrics are available on Canvas.Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirement (ii) in full, will receive a maximum of 45% as the total mark for the unit.
