Overview

This unit explores the development of creative screen ideas and investigates the methods and techniques that are used in the development and production of Film and Television projects. Through creative practice students will further develop an area of specialisation and focus on articulating their aesthetic approach and creative outcomes in a Head of Department role. Students will learn how to engage in and respond to peer and industry feedback at all stages of the production process.

Unit learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  1. Develop and critically evaluate original film and television research projects through a collaborative framework that adheres to screen industry protocols and guidelines
  2. Generate industry-standard short film planning documents to be achieved through creative practice research for fiction or non-fiction genres
  3. Reflect on creative filmmaking processes to develop knowledge and skills in a chosen area of specialisation
  4. Generate and reflect on the collaborative filmmaking approaches employed to achieve aesthetic outcomes
  5. Develop a pitch, distribution and marketing plan for an original short film
  6. Reflect on creative practice outcomes by evaluating the application of collaborative, safe, respectful and sustainable screen industry practices

  • Preparing and shooting a research project within a collaborative framework with consultation from academics and industry.
  • Applying industry-standard practices through the production of a research project
  • Creative practice methods and techniques used in the development and production of Film and Television
  • Coordinating production processes, creative practices and film technologies along with finance and production logistics
  • Exploring funding opportunities
  • Ensuring the production complies with OH&S filmmaking practices, Working With Children's checks and Intimacy etiquette, as required.
