Content

  • Students will work in the industry or community placement to which they are assigned, under the supervision of their Industry Supervisor
  • Students will, with guidance from a discipline-specific Swinburne Academic Supervisor, reflect on their professional placement experience to draw links with discipline knowledge and document the development and growth of their employability skills
  • Students will be required to respond to feedback from stakeholders in ways that inform and improve future practice

Additional Information for when students are on placement in industry

 You will be allocated a discipline-specific Swinburne Academic Supervisor who will: 

  • Provide discipline-specific mentoring, advice and support to students engaging in a WIL placement or internship 
  • Make contact (email, telephone or Skype) with allocated students prior to start date and maintain contact with the student throughout their WIL experience 
  • Meet the student in person at the start of their WIL experience (on site for placements, on campus for internships) and when site visits are conducted, to enter a Site Visit Report into Grade Centre. 
  • Assess all student works and provide grades, completed rubric and timely qualitative feedback in Grade Centre.
     

Eligibility requirements for a Work Integrated Learning Placement  

  • All students enrolled in a Professional Degree. 
  • Domestic and international undergraduate students enrolled in a standard three or four-year degree program. (Available from 2017.)  
  • Eligible students will normally have:  
    • successfully completed a minimum of 150 credit points (300 credit point award) or 200 credit points (400 credit point award) at the time of application; 
    • a current enrolment of 3 or 4 units at the time of application; and 
    • a minimum of 4 units of study remaining at the end of the Professional Placement. 
  • International students who secure a professional placement will need to transfer to a corresponding Professional Degree and apply for a new visa that reflects the longer duration of their course. 
  • Variations to the stated eligibility requirements may be proposed by the relevant Faculty or School, and must be approved by the DVCA.
