General Information

Overview

The Graduate Certificate of Cyber Security builds on your STEM qualifications or relevant industry experience to develop cyber security-related skills and knowledge. These areas include: system security, penetration testing, incident response, security management, reverse engineering and ethical hacking. This qualification is part of The Master of Cyber security suite, which includes a nested Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma of Cyber security. Upon graduating, you can advance to the Graduate Certificate.

Study structure

Successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Cyber Security requires students to complete units of study to the value of 150 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

  • Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year

  • Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year

  • One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

Aims and objectives

On successful completion of this course students will be able to :

  • Demonstrate a coherent understanding of the concepts and practices within the field of cyber security, and to apply this as an effective member of diverse teams in a professional context
  • Identify cyber security threats and apply appropriate tools and techniques to classify and mitigate those threats
  • Analyse unfamiliar cyber security scenarios, evaluate the existing knowledge base, and propose novel solutions
  • Apply relevant knowledge and skills to implement Cyber security projects with industry relevance
  • Communicate information proficiently to technical and non-technical audiences, including industry practitioners
  • Reflect on, and take responsibility for their own learning, manage their own time and processes effectively by regularly reviewing personal performance as a means of managing continuing professional development
  • Apply knowledge of research principles and methods to solve diverse cyber security problems and scenarios

Volume of learning

The Graduate Diploma of Cyber security consists of a total of 11 units (150 credit points in total). Units normally carry 12.5 credit points (cps.). In a year, eight (8) units normally constitute a full-time load of 100 credit points and four (4) units normally constitute a part-time load of 50 credit points. The volume of learning of the Graduate Diploma of Cyber security is typically one and a half (1.5) years.

Maximum Academic Credit

The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Graduate Diploma of Cyber security is 75 credit points (normally six units)
