Overview

The Graduate Certificate of Construction Management course is aimed at qualifying students to apply the construction management body of knowledge and relevant skills to undertake various technical and management roles in the project-based construction industry. In addition, this course provides pathways for graduates with cognate qualifications and experience to progress to a higher-level course within the nested suite. Graduates of this course will have specialized knowledge of construction management regarding managing people, equipment, materials, built environment and infrastructure assets, as well as overseeing technological processes and managerial aspects related to the design, construction and maintenance of buildings and civil infrastructure.

Study structure

Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate in Construction Management requires students to complete units of study to the value of 50 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

  • Full-time study: 50 credit points/eight standard units of study per year

  • Part-time study: 25 credit points/four standard units of study per year

  • One credit point is equivalent to one hour of study per week per semester (including contact hours and private study)

The Graduate Certificate of Construction Management consists of 50 credit points. Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. A standard annual full-time load comprises of 50 credit points and a part-time load comprises 25 credit points. Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate of Engineering will be able to:

Career opportunities

The skills attained from the program should assist graduates gaining employment as a professional engineer in a range of industries including electrical power generation, safety and distribution, renewable energy systems, systems and embedded design, mechanical systems design, manufacturing systems design, telecommunication networks design, civil engineering project management, structural engineering and construction.

Graduates may wish to progress towards a Graduate Diploma of Engineering, a Master of Engineering, or a Master of Engineering Science.

Professional recognition

Completion of this course may assist graduates in meeting eligibility criteria for membership to various levels of Engineers Australia.

Maximum Academic Credit

The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Graduate Certificate of Construction Management is 25 credit points (normally two units).
