PrimeSCI! delivers exciting programs to ignite STEM curiosity in classrooms and develop the next generation of scientists. These include school holiday workshops, family science nights and primary school science incursions in Melbourne and around Victoria.

As well as schools, PrimeSCI! works with local communities, museums, universities, and governments worldwide, bringing them together to enrich understanding of science and technology.

Primary school incursions

These interactive one-hour primary school lessons maximise hands-on learning and can be delivered at your school or chosen venue. All sessions align with the Victorian Curriculum across Science, Technologies, Geography, and Health & PE, ensuring an engaging and curriculum-focused experience for students.

Synchrotron Education Program 

The Australian Synchrotron in Clayton is a world-class facility supporting research across medicine, nanotechnology, manufacturing and mineral exploration, producing light up to a million times brighter than the sun. Swinburne PrimeSCI!, in partnership with ANSTO, delivers unique science education programs for secondary students, teachers and the public.

Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series  

With continued 2025 funding, PrimeSCI! offers free 90-minute hands-on science enrichment incursions for high-ability Prep to Year 2 students in Melbourne metro government schools, and Prep to Year 6 in regional or rural Victorian government schools. Topics include Forces and Sound and Light. Supported by the Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series.

Deep Creek Environmental Education Program

Swinburne PrimeSCI! and Cardinia Shire Council offer F-Year 6 excursion programs focused on STEM, environment and sustainability at the Deep Creek Reserve Centre. The Pakenham site provides indoor and outdoor learning spaces and demonstration wetlands, giving students hands-on, curriculum-aligned opportunities to explore science and sustainability.

PrimeSCI! provides limited equity-based funding to help disadvantaged students access PrimeSCI! Science Incursions and reduce barriers to participation. Programs for students and parents

Family Science Nights

Encourage students to embrace science by involving their families in an engaging, hands-on evening of exploration and discovery. Family Science Nights can be scheduled at your school throughout the year for up to 180 participants, fostering curiosity, collaboration and a stronger shared love of learning across the wider school community, enriching the experience.

Holiday programs

PrimeSCI! Holiday Programs offer interactive, hands-on science workshops across physics, chemistry, biology, earth and environmental sciences. For Kinder–Year 8, sessions run at Swinburne’s Wantirna and Hawthorn campuses during school holidays. Year 8–VCE students attend programs at the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton, featuring lab sessions and facility tours using specialised equipment.

Labrats Science Club 

The Labrats Science Club selects 25 juniors (Years 5 and 6) and 25 seniors (Years 7 and 8) each year to participate in 10 months of activities, meetings with researchers, project work, competitions and enthusiastic scientific discussions.
