Overview
This unit addresses the role of leaders and leadership, including governance and legal structures, in sport organisations. Leaders in sport organisations can be paid – such as CEOs and senior managers, or voluntary, such as boards of directors. This unit will cover issues of as board performance, governance principles and dual leadership. The unit also examines the unique legal structures in place for the regulation of sporting organisations and competitions.

Unit learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Identify the various governance structures involved in managing sports and associated organisations
- Comprehend and apply the Sport Australia governance principles of performance and strategy in sporting contexts
- Comprehend and apply the Sport Australia governance principles of compliance and risk management in sporting contexts
- Demonstrate an understanding of the unique legal environment as applied to sport and sport management
- Analyse the different and complementary roles of dual leadership (Chair and CEO) in sport organisations.
