Overview

Mobile media futures introduces students to the field of mobile communications, next generation mixed reality technology and software. The aim of this unit is for students to explore mobile media in global and local contexts, to inform their design and understanding of mobile and next generation immersive media. Student will be invited to reflect on inequalities in the access to mobile media, as well as the diverse contexts and possible solutions for digital divides. Students will develop an idea for their own mobile application, using industry standard software to create a dynamic visual mockup of their mobile application concept.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Demonstrate critical understanding of mobile technology, cultures, and contexts of use and emerging and next generation mobile media and technologies
  • Employ contemporary theories of mobile media to inform design and practical engagement with mobile media
  • Critically evaluate the diverse social and cultural appropriation of technologies and identify opportunities to overcome the digital divide
  • Utilise industry standard software for mobile application design and communication such as interface mockups
