Systems Analysis and Design
Overview
This unit provides students with the systems analysis and design methods, tools, and practices, which are fundamental to excel as business analysts in technology-enabled organisations. The unit covers various system development lifecycles, methodologies, and techniques, based on real-world cases. Students will analyse business problems, including AI/ML implications, conduct business requirement analysis, using modelling techniques with the support of AI tools to identify system requirements and create business analysis deliverables, and propose systems solutions which may incorporate AI components. Upon completing this unit, students will be equipped to analyse and model real-world business problems and propose effective technology-based solutions.

Unit learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Develop and present a resolved project outcome which synthesises an understanding of ethical and socio-technical challenges faced by an ICT professional
- Evaluate the role of standards, codes of conduct and legislative/regulatory obligations on the level of professionalism of the ICT industry
- Review the roles and responsibilities of ICT professionals in organisations and society from a range of perspectives such as work-life balance, mentoring and life-long learning
- Communicate effectively as a professional and function as an effective leader or member of a team

- The role of the analyst in designing and implementing technology-enabled business solutions
- Methods and techniques for collecting and analysing business requirements and data needs
- Approaches for modelling requirements: process, data, use case and user interface, with considerations for the AI components.
- The impacts of AI on business functions, process and services
- Methods for designing, developing, and deploying technology-enabled business solutions, e.g., Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodology.
- Introduction of system architecture
- System design: data and logical design
- Methods for evaluating technology-enabled business solutions, including those with AI components
- Fundamental project management and planning in the context of technology-enabled business requirements analysis and design
- Creation of system analysis deliverables, with the support of AI tool
