Overview

This unit explores the process of producing 3D visual effects and volumetric assets for screen productions. From pre-production, planning and visualisation, through to acquisition and post production, students will explore the creation of 3D assets for spatialised environments along with compositing procedures and practices. This unit is tailored for those with an interest in creating screen content using 3D visual effects and volumetric capture.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  1. Plan a 3D visual effects project, including documentation and pre-visualisation
  2. Use volumetric capture technology to capture assets suitable for visual effects post-production and compositing work
  3. Apply the principles of 3D spatialised cinematography suitable for compositing and volumetric capture.
  4. Integrate the principles of 3D visual effects software and post-production workflows and paths
  5. Construct a professional 3D visual effects aesthetic
  6. Produce a 3D visual effects piece for creative industry sectors
  7. Evaluate the purposes and limitations of volumetric capture techniques and workflow as applied to a visual effects project
