Overview

This unit explores film, animation, games and screen production soundtracks, and provide the basis for the development of listening skills in regard to sound production. It will introduce concepts and technical approaches to soundtrack production. It will focus on the conceptual role of the soundtrack within screen narratives. Students will be encouraged to take a critical stance to the use of sound, and explore the potential of sound and sound production in this context.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Investigate and critique soundtracks
  • Apply post-production skills by engaging in and providing solutions to a series of technical sound post-production problems
  • Articulate and use sound treatment as a conceptual and narrative tool whilst engaging with technical issues
  • Apply best practice industry standard methodologies in regard to sound post-production and sound design
