Overview

​This Unit provides students with further opportunity to expand their creative and collaborative filmmaking skills through the development of a Major Film Project. Students will be encouraged to further develop and nurture projects within the group dynamic as if professionally employed in the film and television industry.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Develop a creative and collaborative filmmaking approach to a narrative, documentary or animated film, television pilot or promo, or equivalent production commensurate with the final Major Film Project
  • Visualise and develop directorial production documents for a Major Film Project which reflect the creative and collaborative input from all filmmaking specialisations
  • Apply professional collaborative filmmaking skills using visual, aural and technical approaches to develop the Major Film Project
  • Prepare and deliver a group pitch that shows the development of the Major Film Project through pre-production filmmaking documents – script, mood boards, shot lists, camera and lighting plans, sound recording treatments and post-production plans and ancillary written materials
  • Reflect on professional level of planning for creative and collaborative filmmaking production workflows

Content

  • Pitching and developing screen plays and directorial ideas that inform production materials and film specialisations
  • Visualizing a screen play through pre-production planning documentation based on directorial and film specialisations approaches using creative practice research method
  • Exploring the collaborative and creative practices of film and television specialisations, including writing/script editing, producing, directing, acting, production design, cinematography, editing and sound design
  • Developing professional skills through specialisation workshops for Head of Department roles
  • Developing emotional and complex response to screen ideas and thematic approaches to aesthetic, visual and audio choices
  • Reflection on the development of collaborative and creative practices of filmmaking
