Overview

This unit teaches students how to customise building technology in response to specific project requirements, and according to sustainable and Australian building codes and regulations. Students will learn how to apply building and construction technologies to specific interior architectural ideas. Through precedent study and examples of built projects, students will learn how to identify, evaluate and engage with the technological and sustainable aspects of interior architecture.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Evaluate the construction of a building as certified by current sustainable standards/ratings
  • Identify the relationship between documentation specification and the Australian building codes and regulations
  • Identify building methods for a commercial or retail projects
  • Produce a professional standard set of documentation drawings and specifications for an architectural project
  • Apply contract documentation conventions within a project according to local and national building codes and standards
  • Apply innovative technology solutions to project-specific requirements
  • Critically evaluate the building’s construction technologies and services
  • Discuss issues regarding environmental impact and sustainability relevant to the project[s]
