Overview

This unit explores buildings as a communicative medium. It will present an understanding of buildings as technological communication and human networks. Students will be guided in questioning the nature of traditional and interactive modes of representation. Through investigating architectural components as a part of a larger system, creating virtually animated prototypes, and communicative media, students will develop skills and knowledge of buildings as dynamic systems.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Communicate using different modes of architectural communication – especially those modes that involve temporal information
  • Explain architectural systems and subsystems
  • Communicate ideas and execute outcomes of design through 2, 3 and 4-dimensional modes of architectural communications through sketches, montage, print, digital models, or animations.
  • Identify points of control of sustainable, resourceful and zero-waste efficiencies within architectural systems
