Study and Living Support Grants

The Study and Living Support grant aids students experiencing financial difficulties and struggling to meet basic living costs.

Value:  $2,000 (paid in two instalments of $1,000 in Semester 1 and Semester 2 post census date). 


Courses eligible

Available to students studying any course at an undergraduate, associate degree or UniLink level (not including undergraduate certificate)


Eligibility / selection criteria

To be eligible you must meet all the following criteria:

  • a local student (Australian citizen/permanent resident/permanent humanitarian visa holder/New Zealand citizen);
  • enrolled in an undergraduate degree, associate degree course or UniLink course (not including undergraduate certificate) at Swinburne;
  • enrolled full time or part time, and actively studying in 2026;
  • demonstrate that you are from a low socio-economic background (e.g. you or your parents are in receipt of Centrelink payments) or regional/remote background, or Indigenous Australian.

If you are a Swinburne Online or Open Universities Australia student, you can apply if you are on a Commonwealth Supported Place and meet the above criteria. 

If you are in receipt of a current scholarship you are ineligible to apply for this grant.

 We will receive more applications than grants available so there is no guarantee that you will be successful. Please ensure that you provide all the information so that your application can be fully assessed.

How to apply

Applicants must complete and submit an online application form and all supporting documentation by 11.59 pm Thursday 2 April 2026. Please have all your supporting documents with you before you start filling in the application form. If you attach a document that is too large, you will get a message on your application form and the application won't be able to be submitted. In that situation, attach a word document listing what document/s you can't attach.  Applicants will be notified the outcome by 24 April 2026 via their student email account.

Supporting documentation including:

  • A copy of the most recent Centrelink Statement (it is a 2 to 3 page document) outlining your  Centrelink payments  (screenshots are not sufficient – this link outlines instructions on how to download your Centrelink Statement https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/individuals/online-help/centrelink/request-document-using-your-centrelink-online-account). Screenshots will not be accepted.  If you receive more than one type of payment,  please provide statement/s showing all the fortnightly amounts.  
  • If you are working, a copy of your three most recent payslips, to verify your income and a copy of your most recent tax statement.  
  • If you have a disability or medical condition or mental illness, a copy of letter from a relevant health professional outlining your condition if you are not registered with Accessibility Services
  • If you live in a household with a partner or parents/guardians a copy of their Centrelink Statement if  they receive Centrelink Benefits (see dot point 1 about how to download your Centrelink statement),  Screenshots will not be accepted. If your partner or parents/guardians receive more than one type of payment, please provide statement/s showing all the fortnightly amount.  If they don't receive Centrelink Benefits, a copy of their three most recent payslips .

Please note: If you do not provide the correct supporting documentation in the format as outlined above your application will not be considered. We will not be following up students for missing or incorrect documents.
