We believe that law graduates need to be prepared for the complex legal challenges and opportunities that await them. That’s why we offer law degrees at Swinburne.
Swinburne offers a new approach to legal education: our courses emphasise creativity, innovation and commercial law including copyright and patents. While studying at our exclusive law school, you’ll benefit from our small class sizes, readily accessible academic staff and strong industry connections.
Swinburne’s law degrees focus on practical legal skills with regular Moot Court and advocacy activities. You’ll also complete three professional experience placements during your degree – each placement offers unique opportunities to gain industry insight and build valuable connections and networks.
Our broad range of double degrees give you the flexibility to expand your expertise into a field of your choosing. Combine your law degree with studies in disciplines including engineering, computer science or innovation and design.
By the time you graduate, you’ll be prepared for a fulfilling career in any general legal setting or to apply your knowledge in intellectual property law by pursuing a career in industries such as banking and finance, entertainment and media, information technology, international politics or science.
ACCELERATE INTO YOUR LEGAL CAREER
Swinburne law students are the only students in Victoria who are eligible to be admitted to legal practice on the day they graduate.
To accelerate your learning, you’ll be able to enrol in a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice through Leo Cussen Centre for Law during the final year of your Bachelor of Laws. This dual award program provides the requisite training to practice law, cutting months off the time it takes to become a lawyer.

It gave the Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Business student valuable practical experience and challenged him to think outside the box.
"This experience has given me the foundations to build upon, to one day become a great international advocate for Indonesian relations, whether it be in law or commerce," he says.

The Swinburne Advantage. Available to all new undergraduates.
I heard about Swinburne’s new Law School via a radio ad and thought I would check it out. When I first came to the campus I was amazed at just how accessible the university was. There is a real sense of community at the Law School. My placement in commercial law gave me a true, raw experience of a barrister’s day-to-day activities and work.
