Indigenous Studies

Gain a deeper understanding of the rich history and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We believe it’s important to have an accurate knowledge of the history and challenges faced by Australia’s Indigenous communities. That’s why we offer Indigenous Studies at Swinburne.

You will examine the past and contemporary experiences of and attitudes towards Indigenous peoples, both in Australia and internationally. You’ll be encouraged to ‘Unlearn’, ‘Learn’, and ‘Act’ and develop a broad knowledge of Indigenous Australian history, knowledge, entrepreneurship, representations, and resilience.

You’ll gain a deep understanding, awareness and ability to critically engage with contemporary and historical issues in Australian society that will benefit you in a range of professions.
