Aims and objectives

This is the final of three professional experience units in the Master of Teaching (Primary). In this unit pre-service teachers will undertake a 20 day professional experience in a primary school under the supervision of an approved mentor. Pre-service will involve themselves in the life of the school and reflect on their practice and performance supported by their in school mentor and university academic staff. Within this unit pre-service teachers must demonstrate that they are ready to teach within a primary school. Pre-service will be required to demonstrate competence against all elements of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: (APST) Graduate stage. This is a requirement for graduation.

Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO)
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

1. Plan for, implement, enact and evaluate the complete learning and teaching cycle by effectively using the curriculum, research-informed teaching strategies, and school-based resources to a standard that reflects a proficiency of the graduate teacher stage.
2. Create and maintain a supportive and safe learning environment for the diversity of learners
3. Assess, record, provide feedback, and report on student learning to a standard that reflects a proficiency of the graduate career stage
4. Apply the relevant ethical and legislative requirements and applicable codes of ethics to the practical teaching context.
