Aims and objectives

This unit introduces a range of industry standard practices, including design presentation and production processes for print and screen communications. It includes workflow for production, methods of selection, sourcing and specifying of material and/or process suppliers and manufacturers in relation to a design project. Various aspects of production will be explored, including articulating designs to manufacturers, software and design methods that support design as activity for production, mass production or one to-many communications.
This unit develops professional presentation and communication skills. Students develop a portfolio, proposal writing, presentations and workshops in preparation for professional practice.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Determine industry standard systems, methodologies and technologies relevant to communication design practice.
2. Evaluate production techniques for their communicative potential and suitability to particular design projects.
3. Identify and communicate design and production requirements to suppliers and manufacturers.
4. Evaluate the sustainable aspect of design projects.
5. Produce a folio presentation edited for appropriate media aimed at a specific target audience.
6. Critically evaluate and articulate a project intent, process and outcome in an interview situation.
