Aims and objectives
This unit builds students' knowledge and academic performance by offering experiential, discipline-specific learning through an Industry Placement. Students will be given opportunities to apply and develop existing design skills, experience creative team dynamics and gain insights into contemporary workplace culture, ethics, issues, responsibilities and practices for communication design practice. Students will develop interpersonal skills by working in a discipline-related environment.
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Reflect on the principles and processes of professional practice in the communication design industry.
2. Recognise and apply the tools and approaches used in the design industry to manage time, tasks and resources within a design process.
3. Recognise and respond to the differing expectations of clients, customers and team dynamics in a design process.
4. Apply a range of professional communication practices, language and protocols appropriate to the design workplace.
5. Use critical reflection to devise alternative solutions to design problems.
6. Explain and evaluate their contribution to a design process and its outcomes.
