Aims and objectives

This unit of study aims to introduce you to power system engineering fundamentals including, the methods of power system analysis and design.

Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO)

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

1. Calculate transmission line parameters given the configuration of a transmission line. (K3, S1, S2)

2. Perform a wide-variety of per-unit conversions. (K3, S1, S2)

3. Describe and evaluate a variety of transformer and generator models using appropriate model and mathematical notation (K2, K3, S1, S2)

4. Perform power-flow problem in detail. (K2, K3, S1, S2, S3)

5. Perform flow and contingency analysis and differentiate among PV, PQ, reference/ swing/ slack buses in power flow analysis. (K3, S1, S2)

6. Describe the fundamental compositions and structures of renewable power systems (K3, S1)
