Aims and objectives

This unit focuses students on developing a foresight approach to innovation and design, adding a range of foresight tools and methodologies to existing innovation and design processes. The unit therefore aims to extend the students’ thinking in terms of creating solutions to design briefs that go beyond the traditional boundaries considered. The unit encompasses the societal and commercial/business aspects of innovation and design in a foresight context.

Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO)

1. Apply knowledge of research methods and design to plan and execute a piece of research on an enterprise problem using relevant design methods
2. Apply problem solving methodology to develop an enterprise innovation response for a new or existing organisation
3. Apply problem solving, design and decision making methodologies to construct a response to an enterprise challenge that both meets the brief and takes into account broader issues and demonstrates critical thinking
