Aims and objectives

New unit from 2023 (replaces INF10003)
This unit aims to instill an appreciation of how technology can be used to assist business in the era of digitalization, without the technology becoming an end in itself. In particular, the unit aims to generate an awareness of the importance of digital technologies and information to organisational decision-making. Further, we examine how managers and practitioners can ensure the fitness-for-purpose of digital technologies and information to the decision makers such that business might gain a competitive advantage in digitalized world. Students gain a strong foundation of business systems fundamentals and an appreciation of how digital technologies impact business stakeholders, customers, suppliers, manufacturers, service makers, regulators, managers and employees.
Unit Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Analyse and explain issues that arise with the adoption / acquisition of digital technology
2. Demonstrate how digital technologies enable core business processes and support business strategic goals
3. Discuss the impact digital technologies (including but not limited to Cloud, Virtual Reality, etc. ) have had and will continue to have on organisations
4. Describe ethical, cultural and security concerns associated with the use of digital technology within and between organisations and between organisations and their customers
5. Communicate effectively as a professional and function as an effective member or leader of a team
