Aims and objectives
The aim of this unit of study is to introduce engineering students to the advanced methods used for concrete structural design.
Unit Learning Outcomes (ULO)
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Design reinforced concrete slab using plastic methods (K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, K6, S1, S2, S3).
2. Design specific concrete elements using the strut and tie method (K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, K6, S1, S2, S3).
3. Design prestressed concrete (K1, K2, K3, K4, K5, K6, S1, S2, S3).

Minimum requirements to pass this Unit
As the minimum requirements of assessment to pass a unit and meet all Unit Learning Outcomes to a minimum standard, a student must achieve:
(i) an overall mark for the unit of 50% or more, and
(ii) at least 40% in the final exam
Students who do not successfully achieve hurdle requirement (ii) will receive a maximum of 44% as the total mark for the unit and will not be eligible for a conceded pass.
