About Moon
A faster route to the degree
Moon's Malaysian and refugee studies didn't give her the prerequisites for direct entry. Fee Free Uni Ready replaced the certificate-diploma-degree route with a single semester, and no added cost.
Preparation that paid off
The academic units built her confidence with papers and essays, and teaching staff were always on hand. Moon is now enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Sciences, starting next semester.
Finding her community
Not having gone through the Australian school system made friendships hard at first. The course put Moon alongside others in the same position, whatever industry they were heading into.
A better choice
Moon has long held a passion for dermatology and medicine, and one day hopes to study to become a doctor. After moving to Australia post high school, Moon was unable to apply directly for a bachelor's degree because her equivalent Malaysian and refugee studies did not give her the prerequisites needed.
While researching her options, Moon initially thought the certificate-diploma-degree pathway was her only choice. When a Swinburne study support officer informed Moon of the Fee Free Uni Ready Program, she realised not only could she have a fast-track to her degree course, but also without the additional financial burden.

Preparation pays off
Moon found the Fee Free Uni Ready course prepared her for all facets of university life, but particularly when it came to the academic units and getting used to writing papers and essays.
She says the teaching staff were always on hand to help, giving a range of options to solve problems that came up along the way. Moon says she felt supported throughout the course and could always turn to her teachers for advice. Since completing the Fee Free Uni Ready course, Moon is now enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Sciences due to start next semester.
Building relationships
One of Moon's greatest challenges initially was finding her community. Having not gone through the Australian school system, this made it difficult at first to find her friendship group. But the Fee Free Uni Ready course opened the door for her to meet others in the same position, finding friendship even when her fellow classmates may have been going into completely different industries than her.
Moon's advice to those considering taking the leap into study is to be courageous and reach out to others in your class. This will connect you to those in the same position as you and enhance your university experience. Also, don't be afraid to ask the teaching staff for help. They are incredibly passionate and are there to see you succeed.
