Swinburne University of Technology has been ranked first in Victoria by domestic postgraduate students for overall educational experience in the 2025 Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) Student Experience Survey (SES).
The overall educational experience reflects a student's holistic view of their study experience, with Swinburne achieving an impressive 81.9 per cent rating.
International postgraduate students have also ranked Swinburne second in Victoria for peer engagement, assessing learning and interactions with other students.
These outstanding results continue Swinburne’s upward trend for the postgraduate student experience, improving its position on 2024.
"Our postgraduate students consistently tell us they value the personalised support, high-quality teaching and industry-connected learning experiences that Swinburne offers,” says Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Education, Experience and Employability, Professor Laura-Anne Bull.
“The characteristic elements of the Swinburne journey build strong foundations for success. These outstanding results reflect that.”
Swinburne maintained its position in the 2025 SES as top three in Victoria for student and support services (at 73.9%), as ranked by both domestic and international undergraduate students. This sits above the average across all Australian higher education institutions (70.4%).
Learners at Swinburne are supported at every stage of their journey through a wide range of academic, career, wellbeing, safety and support services and are regularly consulted on how Swinburne can deliver the best student experience.
“Students are at the heart of everything we do. This strengthens our approach and we continue to collaborate with our students to co-create the university experiences of the future," says Professor Bull.
About the QILT survey program
The 2025 QILT survey program includes the Student Experience Survey (SES), along with Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) for domestic and international graduates, and the Graduate Outcomes Survey-Longitudinal (GOS-L) which captures medium-term employment outcomes. It also includes the Employer Satisfaction Survey, which measures employers’ satisfaction with higher education graduates hired.
About the SES
Conducted annually since 2012, the SES is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education students in Australia.
The SES measures aspects of the student experience that are linked to learning, development and student success. Information collected in the SES helps higher education institutions and the government improve teaching and learning outcomes for students.
In 2025, the SES assessed 153 higher education providers against five aspects of the higher education student experience: skills development; peer engagement; teaching quality and engagement; student support and services; and learning resources. The SES also measured students’ overall education experience. The SES received responses from over 178,000 undergraduate students and 102,000 postgraduate coursework students.
