Swinburne University of Technology has climbed seven places to number 43 in the Times Higher Education (THE) Younger University Rankings 2023.
The latest result strengthens Swinburne’s standing as one of the world’s top 50 young universities, a position held by the university for the second year in a row.
The ranking success follows Swinburne’s recent achievements in other university metrics, including our top 300 result in the QS World University Rankings 2024, as well as ranking eighth in Australia and second in Victoria for the entire education experience for undergraduate students in the 2022 Student Experience Survey.
Swinburne’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Pascale Quester, said the THE Young University ranking confirms Swinburne’s reputation as a young, innovative and future-focused university with global ambitions.
“The result speaks to Swinburne’s best-in-class learning environments, exceptional research programs and deep industry partnerships, as a young university stepping up on the global stage,” Professor Quester said.
“Our top 50 position reflects Swinburne’s distinct role in delivering transformative technology and the human capital and talent to leverage it, as we bring people and technology together to build a better world.’
THE Young University Rankings list the world’s best universities that are 50 years old or younger.
This year’s ranking assesses universities founded between 1973 and today, based on 13 performance indicators across five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).
The 13 performance indicators are the same as the flagship THE World University Rankings, however weightings have been adjusted to give less weight to reputation.
